Malta is the 6th largest ship registry in the world and is one of the most popular EU flags for yacht registration with circa 800 yachts registered.  Yachts of any size may register for pleasure use and yachts of 15 metres or more can register for commercial use.  The sole port of registry is Valletta.

  • offshore companies operating ships can enjoy all the exemptions and benefits provided for by the offshore legislation;
  • ships may be registered in the name of legally constituted corporate bodies or entities irrespective of nationality, or by European Union citizens;
  • twenty four hour, seven days a week service in respect of urgent matters;
  • Malta is an international maritime centre providing the whole range of maritime services.

The Cayman Islands is a non EU jurisdiction for VAT and crew employment and is frequently chosen by owners wishing to benefit from temporary admission when visiting EU waters.  The Ports of Registry are:George Town, The Creek and Bloody Bay.
